Be careful buying rando hardware devices from makers who don't mention anything about themselves on their website.

Maybe they are legit, but why so mysterious?

I dunno, I'd be careful regardless.

Well, being a lightning dev I imagine Will is more than capable of verifying the code for himself. The rest of us... not so much.

Not sure if he reviewed any code. He put out a personal recommendation from working with the developer:

I see. Well, that's a bit more comforting haha, but still...

I'll just wait a while to see if anyone gets rugged first.

Fully agree. No need to be the first mouse.

This is true.

What I liked about the recent Bitkey open source drop is it was everything from the source code to the hardware to the electrical diagram.

Way over my head with a lot of it but good to see a precedent being established.

They went through all the trouble to stay anonymous. Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, namecheap domain and webspace on digitalocean.

And clicking on the copyright link 2024 wants to download an apk?? Wat?

No way in hell I connect this thing to my network or any device that holds private information about me.

My thoughts exactly. Like.. who the hell is selling this? I mean.. if you know them in person, great, but for the rest of us, what are we supposed to do - guess?

It’s alekos filini. Worked on green wallet, bdk, now this.

This one line would be so helpful on that website

Why he keeps it a mystery? I mean, tax fraud isn't necessarily something I'm entirely closed to, strictly morally speaking but he isn't helping his (extremely slick looking) project with the anonymity.

This is not looking good and makes me evermore suspicious. Will's trust in somebody he once worked with means nothing to me when it comes to securing my bitcoin. That's all we got now, a mysterious dev, an unknown device manufacturer, a website that wants to bug my phone and Will saying it's OK.

We have a name now. You could verify his employment history. But I agree that it should be more transparent. Perhaps it will be?

Yes I see

I can tell him that, hes next to me

"the plebs are prepping pitch forks and want more transparency" 🤣🤣🤣

That’s weird. I can see how a lot of people will download this.

"Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, namecheap domain and webspace on digitalocean."

Standard issue cloud setup in 2024.

I know, point is that on top of anonymous hosting, the website doesn't feature an information about the owner and publisher

old school is the new school

I know and trust the guy who created this device and I believe he also gave a demo of it at nostr:npub1h493d0qgwhu95s82zd9sxrt3ckn3ttgvaf04z02neckadxw5fkvqte4cwz . Im sure he’ll be doing more public talks about it and then you should decide if it’s something you want to play with.

+1

Is this open source ?

FOSS was in the pitch - founder mentioned he is opening shortly if I remember correctly

https://twenty-two.xyz/

Ahh, that’s old school trick we will open source shortly 😁

The founder is earnest, humble, smart, and he’s worked closely with people I know and trust. Let’s give him time to deliver.

Briefly met him. He seems a bitcoiner and gets FOSS. Invited him to nostr. Let’s see

I believe you 😉 Let them build.
