I was born into a high-trust, happy, successful, highly advanced and functional, nearly 100% homogeneous society, where you could drive through most any neighborhood after school and see hundreds of children (not an exaggeration, I was one of them) playing in their yards, on the sidewalks, and in neighbors' yards without direct parental supervision necessary -- even a mile from home -- and literally no danger felt or experienced (and this in a big urban area). A country where men and women were delighted with one another and the birth rate was the highest I've seen in my lifetime, where sexual perversion and the war between the sexes and childlessness were almost unknown, where we had almost infinite choices of suitable mates and every one of them seemed a shining guarantee that our kind would survive forever, where there was optimism for the future and an ever-increasing living standard. All that has been stolen from us.

I was born in 1956 in Anchorage, Territory of Alaska. Prior to the Great Betrayal of 1965, I lived there and in Juneau, Alaska, and Alexandria, Virginia. I also spent almost every summer on my grandparents' farm near McIntosh, Minnesota. Of course, my experience could have been duplicated in almost all essentials in every state of the Union, any province of Canada, or, for that matter, in any country in Europe or Australasia, before the Betrayal.
