Hmm. I never considered quoting a note as an engagement hack.
In my mind it's just a way to share a thought along with the context or note that provoked it, without people needing to click through to a thread.
There’s a place for it. Some people use it when they should reply directly. It’s annoying when that happens.

Replying to someone like Odell gives you more exposure than quoting to your own smaller following, though. Use the features how you want. Just making an observation.
