Cognitive dissonance is when your brain feels confused or uncomfortable because you’re thinking two things that don’t really fit together.
Because I’m continually seeking out new perspectives, information and ideas…
I’ve created strategies to help me process polarising ideas or even, new ideas or thought bubbles that challenge what I already believe.
You need a strategy for processing in such a way that you remain grounded & feeling safe and secure in who you are when your cage gets rattled, so to speak.
Without this ability, you will never allow yourself to think outside what you already ‘know’ ( believe to be true. )
Avoidance is a strategy one might choose habitually to stay one step ahead of CD. Avoiding new information or opinions.
Dismissiveness is another. Dismissing anything you are exposed to if it sets you off kilter.
Self leaders embrace CD even though it can, and is uncomfortable.
