This is a great point, one I have thought about a lot.
As a Virginian and American, you can have a massive appreciation for commonwealth and country, its ideals, values, etc. and keep those separate from the governments that are currently running things.
Above all is my faith in Christ and my home is in heaven at the end of the day.
I'm not American. My opinion is informed by the thesis from The Sovereign Individual, which is basically that current countries will and should devolve into smaller entities. But I don't really know what the future holds.
I definitely think that will play out too. For Americans, you have the country and state aspect which seems to be unique in the world
