“Mouse Melons” from the cucumber family and they are exactly what they sound like. They can be eaten whole/raw or cooked. Personally I cure mine like sweet pickles and put them in a vodka martini.

Interesting. In Cantonese there is a vegetable, even I used to grow, that is called the same. 老鼠瓜. Maybe there are different varieties. The ones we grew had a real sharp end not oval and I think I remember them turning red after a while.

How big do they get in comparison?
