i have a friend who constantly posts breaking news from x that are too sensational to be true.

i woke up to news that putin's limo exploded. my first instinct was to think it is already fake before even watching the video.

it shows a parked car that looks like a limo that's burning on a street. that's it a most wanted man with robust security will not park on a random street in moscow at night. if it is even in moscow.

they are tying this back to the time when zelensky said putin is going to die soon and some big name large following x users are spreading it.

the machine is working as per usual.

I learned many years ago to just stay away from the news ™️ and more recently got rid of all social media minus nostr. Had to cut off my normals friends (on social media) because they’re completely lost in the sauce, whether they know it or not.

Even on nostr the last year I have been muting political noter’s. I was surprised to see so many political simps here even, but that mute button comes in handy. They out themselves almost immediately.

i have stayed away from _the news_ and social media since 2020. i can't escape it from friends and family. i don't want to cut them off because that is what the propaganda machine wants.

i ignore it until i have proof that it is fake and send it to our group chat. then i wait for someone to say, "we knew that was fake"

Cutting them off on social media via just deleting all legacy socials is the move imo. Helped me a lot.

Getting rid of social media necessitates actually social interactions in my experience. I call my friends and my family regularly now and we hangout more. We have great conversations and I just make sure to shut down their dooming MSM bullshit when / if it comes up.

i have the same experience too actually. in reality no one in my close circle talks about politics when we hang out.

even though i am behind in the culture news, memes, and virals, it's not important to me and they know it.
