I might be wrong and wanna be educated if so. But one thing that’s true on bitcoin is it’s traceable. Thus if some address commits a crime like stealing btc then the gov can ask merchants not to accept utxos associated with that. They could also say any btc that was mixed with “bad” utxos is not spendable. In other words, btc can have colors while fiat paper money don’t. (Theoretically each paper has a number but not easily traceable)

Any malicious action should be punished anyway, but the above doesn’t happen in paper money environment

Yes addresses can be flagged and traced but it doesn’t stop a “bad guy” from simply dusting a bunch of addresses with their “tainted” bitcoin.

If you know a senator’s address you could just dust it with micro transactions. Or send to charities, fundraisers etc… essentially implicating everyone.

use samourai or sparrow and it will notify you of dust transactions and you can mark them as do not spend

use better tools designed to offer privacy protection

whirlpool breaks all deterministic links and creates forward looking anonymity

If some btc is marked as “do not spend” that means that btc is dead right? Then that’s a rigid attack from a regular side

you just don’t want to combine that dust uxto with your other uxtos in order to protect against dust attack vector

you can still spend it if you want

it will be lumped into your “balance” you may see if you use a wallet that doesn’t provide you with uxto control

if dumb ass chain analysis wants to waste their sats that is on them just protect your own privacy if you care

Depends if you know about it as the holder of those keys. If you had no idea then you could technically send it around all over. You may get arrested if the authorities are valid in your country but you could argue you had no idea they were flagged.

Probably depends a lot on local legal system, legal precedent and whatnot. Very interesting to see what would happen.

I see. Good that there are wallets like them. Still bit worried for those who are not aware of such attack, and accidentally spend btc with it as not all wallets are like that.

I think some exchanges do not take mixed btc. What if those mixed btc gets to sent to a senator’s address. Can that senator send his/her bitcoin to such exchanges?
