It was a major promise of the government and is still proudly displayed on their website.
From online polling done when the laws were brought in:
"YouGov survey found that 77% of Australians back the under-16 social media ban.
Furthermore, 75% of Australians also indicated support for government's plan to introduce a ādigital duty of careā, that would hold social media companies accountable for proactively protecting users from harmful online content.ā
Iām always super skeptical of those polls. Sometimes they are written in such a way as to get the response you desire.
I canāt say I trust polls either but the response from people I talked to seemed to match up pretty well with that.
The average person really does not care about privacy and sees anything to āprotect the kidsā as unquestionably good.
