Not just put up with but actively cheer it on.

When they were discussing these laws in Australia I was trying to tell people how bad it was but was just met by enthusiasm for the new regulations because they would help protect children.

Everyone cheered it on.

They voted to be in their cage and I am locked in along with them.

Insane …

It was a major promise of the government and is still proudly displayed on their website.

From online polling done when the laws were brought in:

"YouGov survey found that 77% of Australians back the under-16 social media ban.

Furthermore, 75% of Australians also indicated support for government's plan to introduce a ā€œdigital duty of careā€, that would hold social media companies accountable for proactively protecting users from harmful online content.ā€

I’m always super skeptical of those polls. Sometimes they are written in such a way as to get the response you desire.

I can’t say I trust polls either but the response from people I talked to seemed to match up pretty well with that.

The average person really does not care about privacy and sees anything to ā€œprotect the kidsā€ as unquestionably good.
