plex is working too hard to monetize, rather than retain and service current users. check out an open source alternative: jellyfin.org
I did. JellyFin doesn’t hold a candle to Plex. Just because it’s “free” doesn’t mean it’s “better”.
that's not what im saying. different projects have different motivations. plex = money. jellyfin = open source alternative. i prefer to support open source to help it mature and reach the level of more well-capitalized alternatives. at least you've tried it and know it's not for you. cheers 🍻
And I totally get your perspective on that. Mine is a bit different from a 'thinking backward from who will be using it' perspective. My family wants something that is as easy to use for viewing our movie collection that I have digitized as Netflix.. Jellyfin simply did not deliver that as well as Plex did. And for what I paid for Lifetime use the license has more than paid for itself.
But I certainly wouldn't just dismiss JellyFin, Emby or others out of hand. That would be obtuse.. definitely need to keep an open mind - if I didn't I wouldn't be on Nostr.. 🍻
