Was excited to onboard and "sponsor" my childs CashApp account, thought it would be a nifty blend of being able to spend, send, receive ₿itcoin and have links to be able to pay in a variety of places.

Make it make sense...

₿Itcoin is for everyone, even those under 18, ESPECIALLY with parent consent/sponsorship.

That's interesting. Highly suspect this is some gov banking reg. I haven't checked but I bet Strike has the same rules.

Might I suggest a self custody wallet and you the parent sell / give bitcoin to your children. Don't KYC them.

of course, but kids also want to SPEND. Don't think there's another way, except perhaps Cake Wallet and teaching them to buy gift cards on the spot, but that's not IT, lol.

Doesn't make sense they can buy bitcoin, but not withdraw it for 5 years...? with their restrictions, my kid would be stuck on their platform for who knows how long.

Honestly, it's like restricting cash. I give my kid $10 for lunch in cash, I actually don't know where is REALLY went, is that the worry with bitcoin?

That's what I'm saying. With Zeus they can spend. Have them download the bitcoin company app. Then they can buy gift cards as you stated but in a private way. All I'm saying is you can be their bank. Give them a real wallet.

I'm guessing you haven't open bank accounts for minors? What I'm trying to say is bitcoin fixes this. Cash.app really has little choice but to follow their overlords rules.
