Functionality

Sms is limited to 160 chars, doesnt require internet

RCS has features similar to whatsapp or imessage, requires internet

RCS is googles garbage attempt at fixing SMS. It sucks lol

It’s not encrypted by default. Pretty sure google has added E2EE (end to end encryption) for one to one chats in google messages
