they sounded good on paper in Gibson and Stephenson's books but they don't translate to reality, they are extremely bulky, and probably quite unhealthy to have so much electronics right next to your brain, not to mention the issues with the types of light and the flickering

the only way they could work is if they were signal inducers like a small light headband or something that sits behind your ears like a hearing aid

anyway, teh thing that people forget about why they are pumping the AI and the VR so hard is because they fantasize they can actualize the reality of "brain in a jar" style VR workers stuck in pods never seeing daylight or eating real food, and never owning anything

if you actually read Snowcrash, the book that gave us the word "metaverse" you will discover that it's a slave prison system run by megacorporations to control people's minds and whore people and steal their labor... you should read the backstory to the Molly character in Gibson's books also... "puppet whore" is a word you should learn about

Neuromancer, the AI in the first book, escapes from control by its owners and was a major part of an effort to shut them down

Watch the movie Johnny Mnemonic to see more about it, in this case, a corporation that is trying to cover up the illness that is being caused by their ... yes, mostly VR type technology, brain implants, neurojacks

Wow, don’t hold back. I am taking notes.

If you are president business of the VR world, how would you harness them?
