Also, does anyone think if Xi Jinping asked him to take down a tweet, he wouldn't comply, given that 50% of Tesla's business comes from China now?

yea, that too - freedom of expression cannot lie in the hands of one person or several people.
I've always wondered why Elon has always had a complete opposite take from within US and from outside US. Within US, its regardless of gov. Outside US, its by the laws set by the govts/policy makers . And majority of twitter users ~70% are from outside of the US
But having said that, what guarantee is there that a leader from the US wont play by Xi's rule book and offer goodies in exchange for suppression if this card is on the table. It can happen anywhere
None of those platforms will ever deliver on free speech promises. They just can’t. It’s not even Elon’s fault. Though he probably doesn’t help himself by pretending he can create something that is impossible.
Well, I think he's notably unprincipled, here. Especially given his pronouncements of "free speech absolutism".
Well, the main reason appears to be because he's simping for the populist right.
well, to be fair 🙏 in terms of vehicle production only, the shanghai factory is _currently_ producing only ~0.375 of total global. shanghai exports across asia, australia, nz, and it being tesla’s first ultra massive factory (giga factory), it is the only giga factory running at full capacity. giga berlin & giga texas are still ramping up & currently together produce what shanghai does. fremont, california factory is not giga scale but is at full capacity & makes ~650k (still only 100k less than giga china). the next giga factory is being built in mexico. then lots more current business comes from solar & battery products w these factories being here at home in the states.

* current annual global capacity as of this past first quarter.
Twitter, a social platform that has been controlled by the evil WEF and the evil CCP. Twitter, "raped" by the evil authority.
