It’s more the idea of “holding onto your kids”.
Best thing my parents ever did was raising me to think for myself, make my own choices, back me up, and let me live MY life, not the life they wanted for me.
No idea what’s in the book but the title turned me off immediately.

Interesting. I had to google what “peer orientation” actually means (my preconception was way off).
It actually sounds like it’d be an interesting read. Too bad it’s not written well. Even the ToC there is really cryptic and doesn’t help you understand what it’s about.
Well, I find it hard to imagine someone would write a book telling others they should enslave their children to their own desires. That can't possibly be the message of that book.
Maybe. Like I said, I haven’t read it. I have however read a lot of other parenting books that didn’t sit well with me.
Something I noticed from my own experience as a kid/teenager and I’ve seen with my own kids already – there are many things that hit harder (out only hit at all) when they come from someone other than the parent. IMO, Peers and other adults are incredibly important to a kid’s development. Helping kids learn to actively curate that group is probably one of the more important thing that a parent can do.
