Well, I find it hard to imagine someone would write a book telling others they should enslave their children to their own desires. That can't possibly be the message of that book.

Maybe. Like I said, I haven’t read it. I have however read a lot of other parenting books that didn’t sit well with me.
Something I noticed from my own experience as a kid/teenager and I’ve seen with my own kids already – there are many things that hit harder (out only hit at all) when they come from someone other than the parent. IMO, Peers and other adults are incredibly important to a kid’s development. Helping kids learn to actively curate that group is probably one of the more important thing that a parent can do.
