You’d be hard pressed to find a historical period that we call a renaissance or golden age that didn’t have walls or borders around their city/state/country to keep out “barbarians”.

I've always found it fascinating how Europe chose to remove borders between countries. There's an "external" border still of course, but everyone within those borders can travel freely to and from 29 different countries with their own people, governments and culture. 🇪🇺
Yeah, this is a very recent and short stint of peace for Europe. They’ve been at war with each other for thousands of years prior to ww2. Definitely will not last imo and will accelerate if and when the USA actually stops subsidizing their military to them.
