I'm less worried about how many I'm subscribed to. It's a list I control and need to manage, so knowing that number is ok, even necessary I think. It's also a known quantity, it's a single list that my key controls. Even better would be multiple lists.
How many are subscribed to me is different. It's not under my control, and isn't really known. It's just a count it how many others subscriber lists have been seen that have my npub in them.
that makes sense for how you prefer to curate.
the following count isn’t that important for me to know. my feed is the show i’m watching, & paying attention to the quality of the content that comes through.
if i can’t keep up any more, then i’m following too many. i can figure out from there whether i should unfollow or mute.
the other option is to hide them from public view, from profiles.
