I just tried Proton Wallet for the first time.

#Bitcoin is sent to an email instead of a bitcoin address.

This is not a lightning address.

It's an email address people can use to send bitcoin on-chain.

How do they look up receiver's email address to bitcoin address?..only way to derive addresses is via Xpub, but that's a big privacy "no no" that someone other than the wallet holds your Xpub
