I wasn't very clearly in one, I had long hair and loved metal but I didn't dress in the metalhead uniform and I wasn't socially awkward either. Boozed a lot, was reasonably popular, it was fun times.

Started out as an apprentice Jock, ngl. But then I was "outed" borrowing a library novel to read, which was an unthinkably serious offence there. And then I wouldn't apologise or commit to desisting from this vice.
My jock friends were so angry and humiliated, it was like I'd been exposed as a terrorist.
Hung out then with our meagre supply of Nerds for the next two years, and then I moved to a better school that had Goths and Metalheads.

Lol this sounds too hilarious to be true, did they seriously out you for borrowing a book from the library? Were you living in a comicbook? lol
I was living in that small town, and even I didn't understand how serious my "crime" was. I was smart enough to only enter the library after school once my friends had gone home, but this one Friday someone's parents were late and he was waiting at the gate when I came out putting a book in my bag.
My friend Lachlan loyally refused to believe it, until he heard it confirmed from my lips next Monday. He turned away and never spoke to me again.
I still don't get it. I told them reading for fun was just something I did, and I didn't expect anyone else to do it or anything. Nick shook his head and asked me to promise not to do it again. I didn't.
The Nerds all read, of course. But I missed playing football.
