I can imagine a society where work is voluntary and the consequences of not working wouldn't equate to poor health, homelessness, etc.

A society that allows a basic home for anyone that doesn't destroy it maliciously.

Free food for everyone.

Free clothing and basic medicines.

The rub would be that the house is small and basic. Mediocre compared to what one could have via their earnings.

The food would be quality, but limited to types with abundant supply (dragon fruit in the US would be reserved for those who could afford it).

Clothes would be plain, but they would fit and be warm/cool as necessary. Nike would only be available for workers.

Just having real property rights would accomplish that. If I could own my land without a gun pointed at me and demanding payment annually based on a price that increases faster than wages... Then I'd have chickens and cows and a 3d printer and a bajillion electronics projects. We used to have this. During the period of the most rapid advancement in recorded history, from the American revolution to the unCivil War, people were free, and associations were free, and markets were free, and it was pretty good. All we need is property rights. And all rights are property rights. Our great democracy enslaved us and we have no rights.

Still... without work, how would you afford the land in the first place. You may inherit it, but others would not be so fortunate.
