Once the infrastructure is built on top of Nostr for 'influencers' to build a brand on and earn money from, it's over for legacy social media. I'm not sure how long far away that is though. End of the day, it's all about the incentives

Currently, they're beholden to brands paying them for sponsored content. Some sell their own products but it's mostly paid posts. That will likely need to change and with Lightning, it can

At the rate they're building on here that's not a bad estimate

True but still shady how the shift could happen.

Because even if nostr allows monetization of content without third parties taking a big cut (which is a big incentive indeed) their is still the data host service provider who has to be paid in some ways.

But I suppose the virtue in nostr and building social media on top of an open protocol, is that it will bring much more competition among such services providers, where Youtube & Co are far to dominant right now due to the Network effect they bring.

“If Nostr allows monstization of content”?

I’ve just sent 100 sats to your post. It already allows it :)

No it was a figure of speech meaning that even with easy monetization without intermidiary allowed by nostr, their is still challenges to face. Like the data hosting service providers which are not native to Nostr

Influencers expecte a constant availability of their content which they get through YouTube etc..... But it is a bit more complicated if you choose to opt out of these platforms which provid a real service to influencers actually

So basically the shift is not easy at all

Thanks for the SATs anyway 😆

No, the shift from a centralized platform would be easy at all. The decentralized version has to be better than the centralized. Sometimes "better" means more resistant to censorship
