go beyond the city lights

til the skyline fills with stars

past where the road ends

& all signals die

til only God is there to call upon

alone

deep in the wilderness

experience is cautiously licked from the razor’s edge

the lonely reward

just as sweet

as the tolls paid are bitter

It’s moments of reveal are

breathtaking,

glorious,

serene…

well worth the inevitable scars,

the pain,

the loneliness,

and the fear

stripped of the world you know

reality is just a reflection

laying bare your false-self

for the harsh winds of solitude to blow upon

stay a while…

let the gale wear away the careful truths and convenient lies

let it scour through the fine layers of aged and hardened facade you’ve so carefully maintained…

until one day,

you stand,

the guise removed,

the truth revealed

yours,

to forgive,

to accept,

and,

if you are able…

to love
