I’m not sure Nostr will ever work.

Social media preys on the main sins:

Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.

There’s certainly greed here, but it’s niche and nerdy. Not exactly viral stuff.

There’s little to no rage bait.

It’s almost as if people are paid to be as proactive as possible on X, and their life in default isn’t nearly as rage baity as they make it out to be.

But there’s also no reason to use this as the town square. It’s not particularly organized, it doesn’t have a community outside of BTC, it’s hard to access and difficult to understand.

I still have hope, just not sure when it sparks.

Interesting perspective. I hope you’re wrong but you seem to have correctly identified the human psychological traits that motivate the use of (anti) social media

I have so much to talk about that. But I’ll do it another day. Today, I am tired. But I hear you. 😘

I think it will gain traction as social medias begin to require government IDs to join.

It seems to me that nostr is already working based on your points.

1. Unlike social media that preys on sins.

2. Little to no rage bait.

3. Not organized, I prefer a little chaos, that’s where the dreams are born.

4. Solid bitcoin community. Good values

5. Hard to access and difficult to understand, freedom ain’t free.

Yup, nostr is working in my opinion. šŸ¤™

If an app exists in the ether, but there’s hardly anyone that uses it, does it matter?

It does when you yourself use it and it provides happiness and/or other value.

If it's useful without anybody else being there, it does.

That makes zero sense.

It makes perfect sense. There are endless analogies to plug in here to make it make sense, whether it’s in the ether, reality or fantasy.

Ohhh wait a minute, are you doing that thing that you were talking about others doing on the typical social medias? Doom scrolling and generally messing with people to try and upset them? I see you

Cool. Plug some in.

Make it make sense.

Good luck.

I’ll start with the ether since that’s what you originally asked.

I could make an app to help me personally on a multitude of levels. An app to track my exercise or a reminder to read or eat healthy. Basically an app that improves my mind, body and/or spirt. It makes no difference to me if anyone else is using it.

Real world:

I’m lost in a very remote forest and have been wandering for hours. I happen upon a clear mountain spring boiling up from the earth. Nobody is there but me, in fact it’s so remote that there is a possibility that no one has ever been here. Do I care? Does that matter? No, I drink and it’s fucking delicious. That spring saved my life.

The bottom line is that if you find value in something, it doesn’t matter who else or how many people are using it.

Absurdly selfish reply, and it still makes no sense.

Congrats, you made an app that no one uses but you. That matters in your selfish analogy, but it doesn’t really matter. The impact is generally nonexistent.

We’re not talking about springs in the woods, so also a retarded analogy.

Poor effort on your end. Give it another try.

ā€œIf you don't believe it or don't get it, I don't have the time to try to convince you, sorry. ā€

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice, shame on me.

Trolls be trolling!

You’re not Satoshi;your explanations are borderline retarded.

Social media is a tiny subset of nostr

Ok, which app is used the most?

It doesn't matter.

🤔

I would have explained to you how it can make sense, but you just displayed your tiny intellect to the world, so I'll pass.

Eh it already works. I find it is entertaining for about 30min. Get some news and memes out of it. What else is there? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Also, this particular npib of yours would be very hard to grow, you're literally blocked and reported by a lot of people, which isn't suprising, but it should also not be surprising why you don't get engagement.

I get engagement, see this thread.

I’m also not talking about me.

I’m talking about the consistently declining user base.

The early adopters of Nostr left because of the things that don't exist so much here.

I wonder why those things don't show up here rn

They will all come, but we will have the ability to control our experience

What were/are those things?

I think it takes time to compete for the network effect. People want to post where they have the most impact, I think

Sure. But a large part of that impact is payments for eyeballs.

Doesn’t really exist here.

That’s a good thing, but it also makes things much less interesting (or rage based)

I feel like it’s similar also with crypto/stablecoins vs bitcoin. In the short term they somehow work well enough that people want to use them and build infrastructure around them. šŸ˜ž

Imagine inventing http AFTER MySpace. That's nostr. It shouldn't be confused with social media. But it is understandable why it is.

The internet is social media experiencing itself

<>

nostr is all I've ever known.

A great first step might be to post some original content with some suggested solutions, rather than just being primarily a reposting npub

You have the means.

You probably have some sad friends.

Make them happy, go do something.

Stop being cowards.
