George Lucas on The Parsec Mistake in A New Hope

Watch George back pedal here. No George speed is distance over time. He's trying to say my navi computer is so good it can find a route only three parsecs long between the of the Kessel Run. It implies a fixed time which would be a maneuver not a run. Otherwise I could go very slow, dodge all the rocks along the way & do it in 3 parsecs but take a year to get there. All hyperdrives must move at the same speed too

I always got the feeling that George was a good world builder on the macro level, but had little interest in the minutia. It's not like Tolkien who, when he invents new languages actually invents thorough languages with their own alphabets and grammatical rules - George was like "Um, just have all the Jawas say 'uttinni" a lot.'"
