The logic is pretty clear. If the person you elected does a poor job, then you can both complain and be responsible/accountable for getting them elected. There is no double standard

Except there are two standards. Some from the same individual who are actually hypothetical, or people on each side. People just ride the pendulum, wherever it takes them.
