I gladly pay good tips for good service, but why is tipping becoming a norm everywhere in the USA? Can't employers just pay their employees more and not be so greedy?

It's just absurd when you go to the coffee shop do a self-check and it asks me to tip 🤨

Wait you don't tip the cashiers at Walmart?

If I don't sit I don't tip

100%

but what if you sit in your car in the drivethru?

I don't use drive-thru🤪

i understand. i used to get less wage and relied on tips only. SUCKED!!!

When I look at these numbers I have no words. Why do people even work for such low income

Sometimes that’s all that is available to them i guess. Yeah it’s depressing as fuck and i think it’s fair to blame that structure in part for the tipping culture we have now. “They survive on tips!” is actually pretty much true in a lot of places.

Imagine not being able to pay basic expenses because people eating meals didn’t feel generous enough for a few weeks🫣

That shouldn’t be a possibility imo. Some restaurants will have a little notice on the menu that says “no tipping, we pay our employees well”. That’s a good thing to see imo. Of course you have to trust it to be true too.

Counting on tips is a red flag! You always will be poor. But I just can't put it in my head that whenever I go it asks 15% tips for nothing. I don't remember that this was a thing before. I am not even saying that there are some restaurants that have additional “service 3% fee” out of nothing here in Chicago.

Yeah man. I get dog food at a groomer so the first time when i just bought the food and got no kind of service, their register just automatically has a tip prompt for all customers. I was caught off guard and tipped them 🤣

i kind of feel this sentiment will leak over to nostr with zapping for the masses

Pay in cash. The banks get less money that way anyway.

One of the nice things about Japan - no tipping

Don't get me wrong! I tip 20-30% without a problem but only if I like the service and the food!

Zero tips here and I love it. 😻

Time to move to Japan and become a saver 😂

really? so does Japan have a minimum wage?

👍

Agreed 100%

Tipping is supposed to incentivize a service above and beyond the standard service.

Tipping for serving yourself is absurd.

That’s what I’m talking about.
