I got it down to 2. Both are paid. Note.wine isn’t bad if it’s 1 time pay of 19k sats.
It turns out the reason my Amethyst client was so slow was because I had about 40 relays.
I've reduced it to 10 relays now, and I haven’t experienced any slowdowns or crashes. I think I should aim to remove another 5 relays. Not sure what I was thinking when I added 40 in the first place.
ChatGPT agrees that this was the issue and explained it to me in full technical details and suggests I reduce it further to an ideal number of 3.

Discussion
Nostr.wine is one relay that I see many of the Nostr developers using. It seems to be quite popular, and I've heard it's reliable, even considered one of the top relays.
But how do we actually define a "good" relay?
To me, as long as the relay is online 24/7 and doesn't delete your notes, that's really all you need. That’s why I stick with the more affordable options for now, until relay providers start offering additional features. For example, some relays are planning to allow us to log into their websites and manage our notes. Once that happens, I'll be more inclined to pay a higher price.
At this point, I see a lot of people questioning and asking why should they pay a premium for a relay, and many are not sure what exactly they’re paying for in the first place.
The free relays were good at the beginning, but eventually we must move to a paid one, and eventually we can move to a better paid one.
