It is good to be prepared for fisticuffs, I recommend 3D printed Hoffman Tactical AR-15 lower receivers. Only lower receivers on ARs are serialized, and it is legal to build your own guns, without serial numbers so long as you do not transfer them.
3D printing is just as important to our futures as BTC is. You can make so many things with a printer.
Print the Hoffman Super Lower in PLA+ from polymaker or with a carbon fiber nylon if possible. If using CF nylon, spray paint it to prevent carbon fibers from shedding. Build a gun for medium to long range engagements, and night time operations. You can 3D print a suppressor, but it wont last long. Suppressors are essential at night time as the muzzle flash will instantly reveal your position.
Everyone who can should have a gun that fires 5.56mm with a LPVO (low power variable optic), a high power flashlight, a suppressor, and a plate carrier. If you can spare $2000, you can get into entry level night vision.
In places outside the US, people can produce FGC-9s out of common hardware, and rifle the barrel without specialized equipment.
In the US, you can buy partially completed, unserialized AR-15 lowers known as 80% lowers. Usually a small amount of work will produce a metal, untraceable receiver of similar quality to an off the shelf weapon. This is a good option if you can get these, but they are banned in some states.
Combat is an absolute last resort, but there are scenarios where it would be necessary. It is best to be prepared. Preparedness itself is a great deterrent.
