I feel you brother .. I’m with you .. honestly I am with you 100% but I have a question for you Hodl regarding the u.s education system and this is genuine I’m not tryna be a smart ass.

I am a black man in America with children

You are a white man in America with children

Let’s say they went to same school. Why would you have a problem (I’m assuming you do, forgive me if I’m wrong) with our kids being taught American History that includes slavery and all the evils that the Europeans did to the original Americans. Should they not teach American history to our children at all? What’s the solution?

Now me personally I’m kinda of torn I don’t think black children should be constantly taught that their ancestors were once enslaved, they don’t teach the full history they make it seem like enslaved blacks were helpless and never fought back like there weren’t hundreds of slave revolts etc they also don’t teach kids about white people like John Brown that did a lot to fight against slavery but I also don’t think it should be an ignored part of history just because it makes white people uncomfortable. Do we just leave it up to the parents to teach their kids about the history of America. I already teach my kids their history but I’m speaking on a larger general scale. It seems alot of white Americans are uncomfortable that their kids are being taught the truth and I think it’s dangerous to supresss real things that happened to appease one group of people’s feelings.

Would like to know your thoughts on this and any other white American thoughts on this that have children peace and love to you all.

I have absolutely no problem with them teaching accurate American and world history (which includes slavery). Not sure why I would. Kinda confused by that assumption on your part. I’ve also never met a white parent who felt they shouldn’t be teaching about slavery. How could you even teach the civil war without teaching slavery for instance?

What I’m referring to above in terms of indoctrination is more about conformity, state centrism, collectivism, ideological bias etc…

That said your worldview as described above would fall under ideological bias in my opinion. White Europeans historically aren’t any more evil than any other group of people and white children today certainly bear no responsibility for the actions of people who looked like them hundreds of years ago.

History is always far more nuanced than this group bad/ this group good. Free blacks owned slaves for instance, native Americans owned slaves. Africans sold other Africans into slavery.

Personally I’m deeply against the teaching of any history that lays blame on any group or individual. Human affairs are complex, messy and deeply human and always have been. All history should be told as accurately as possible.

I have personally met white parents in Florida who believe that the history of American slavery should not be taught in public schools. I wrongfully assumed that you shared that sentiment that’s my bad. However, I do agree with your stance on American education. I also believe that all humans have some degree of ideological bias.

I am with you on it being somewhat damaging to black kids though. I’m Irish we’re colonized white people, but I didn’t have to sit through an endless list of atrocities the English did to my ancestors. If I had it may have created psychological trauma of being less than. Not sure. Hard to know. Very complicated subject.

It 1000% created psychological trauma that is very evident and can be seen in Black American culture right now but we could talk for hours about that like you said complicated subject

It’s good to have the discussion though and whatever moron parents you were talking to in Florida are completely clueless as far as I’m concerned.

💯

I’ve never met anyone who thinks we shouldn’t learn about slavery. Speaking from an anti-woke perspective, that’s fucking retarded. Slavery was the intractable sin eating away at the core of our Founding, and the country almost drowned in its own blood to remove it. Frederick Douglass is one of the most impressive people to ever walk this Earth, and every kid should know his story.

But anyone who thinks that topic is the whole story of our country, either to endlessly invoke it, or to twist it and hide from it, is broken and doing themselves no favors.
