Understand the comment in relation to the above, still love my coinkite stuff.

yeah
i just think Bitcoiners should insist on FOSS
particularly for de facto flagship products like CC
I thought it (coldcard) was at one point then a lot of the code was used for the passport and so they locked it down. Totally get that means it was never open source.
I’ve built a couple of seedsigners and setup a kruz and enjoyed them.
Basically, I’d never use a single vendor, multisig and multivendor only.
*krux
Also random note that I think is interesting that I leaned from something on Lopp’s site. If you are going multi vendor you want wallets that have variance in the underlying code or libraries. Some wallets have more in common there like coldcard & passport, especially in the python libraries.
I mean
it *was* open source
but NVK got butthurt when foundation used their code and they changed the license.
Truthfully I do really like the CC device, the guides are fantastic, and it appealed to my paranoid and overly verbose way of understanding things.
But yeah not a fan of how NVK and Coinkite handles their PR, speaks to the customers, and handles criticism and competition. I don't use the device, I also burnt my privacy by connecting to electrum servers raw dog unfortunately, not knowing at the time.
I think its a good educational device and I personally like the UX too
but their success attests to the fact "bitcoiners" dont actually care about or understand FOSS
