I had my first German lesson. My main takeaway is Dutch is a neat combo of English and German.

Naturlich!

Is it? I thought English is a combination of German, French and Scandinavian?!

Seems so

No. English at some point started to use a lot of french words, but the language itself is west-germanic (and thats where fork occurs irt the norse/scandanavian languages, both being 'germanic'). English is subsequently an offshoot of Anglo-Frisian, whilst Dutch is Low Franconian. Technically the closest thing to English is Frisian. All the german languages (standard german, swiss german, luxembourgish etc) are on their own branches of West-germanic.

For the most part the most usefull cluster for all of these is west-germanic, but neither french nor nordic belong to that group.

It is.

Vlaams is nog beter 😜

sehr schön!
