Writing a book about Nostr Ceterum censeo NIP-03 omnibus esse utendum

Newyear and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays, 2026 edition

But hey, the fact the reference in your event is not necessarily specific to a server and can be rehosted after the fact and won't die by default, is 'sooo stupid', apparently. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I just realized that using Nostr never required me to switch from anything, simply because all those years i refused to create an account anywhere, because...fuck you, thats why.

Im home,

Nostr.

If you have a YouTube channel, please back it up with https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp and upload the whole directory!

I guess i should make a nostr note & media backup tool as well.

Why not turn the videos into kind 21 events?

Looks great! I appreciate the kind words, but we’ve just been building off an idea for the past few years.

It is possible that some of this logic will change soon, certainly the tag will go to #zapcooking but also a custom nip for recipes is possible. This has been discussed, and developed but I have not implemented primarily because I have not had any incentive to do so. In fact, it would remove the current interoperability for the implementation of long form notes that work great with clients like nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q and nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 . nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg filters us out.

I would have to convince other clients to implement this custom nip and then lobby for the approval, which has been part of the reason for the delay. nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 removing nostr:npub1xxdd8eusvdxmaph3fkuu9x2mymhrcc3ghe2l38zv0l4f4nqp659qskkt7a from Nostrapps.com for not meeting the purity spec also fuels my contrarian energy, because I thought this was an open protocol where we can build what we want. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I get it though, and my friend nostr:npub1cgcwm56v5hyrrzl5ty4vq4kdud63n5u4czgycdl2r3jshzk55ufqe52ndy has been a voice of reason and has given me pause, consideration and perspective to think about it, which I am. We’ve been building lately with a maniacal passion, so anything is possible.

Now since this concerns perhaps my biggest personal failure of 2025, the topic is a bit of an open wound for me, and I do understand your position as ''zapcooking'' in all of this....but ( πŸ˜… ):

The fact clients were sort of forced to include special behaviors on an existing kind, like primal actively filtering, is the crux here. A recipe kind could/would be a nice first example of ''partial kind rendering'', something i don't think we really have thus far. i.e. a ''general'' client like primal could half-ass the recipe implementation, only showing the bare minimum and pointing their users in the direction of zapcooking for a better/more complete experience. It would be a win-win where Primal only spends minimal time on implementing the kind such that their users don't experience broken references in their feed while browsing primal irt something Primal generally have no interest in putting much effort in anyway, whilst it would give zapcooking (and other potential recipe apps) room to shine in terms of features. Because as it stands, Primal spend that time anyway, in a way that sets a bad precedent (not their fault) for the ecosystem as a whole. Anyway, this whole notion should, in theory atleast, ease the whole implementation lobby process.

Hope you had a good talk with nostr:npub1ehhfg09mr8z34wz85ek46a6rww4f7c7jsujxhdvmpqnl5hnrwsqq2szjqv about it?

Il retreat from the discussion now, ive kind of spend my credits to weigh in anyway, so il just wish everyone a happy new year :)

Ah, the hour of πŸ‘€'s and reposts has started

Dear Rachel, if he would have only posted this picture i am sure nobody would have bothered zapping...maybe someone would have, but generally i am on your side when it comes to the matter of whether sharing cheesesteak pictures will net you bitcoin or not.

Right now seth is just being a filthy begger, please look down at him with utter contempt for me.

oh hey, another guy that loves Nostr without even knowing it (i think, atleast)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VmnhJGdSM0

When asked what the downsides of Nostr are, one part of that answer is that eventhough a platform can erase your presence, you are absolutely free to footgun yourself out of your own established identity.

But that is still better.

Even without any standards, measures, procedures to 'fix' this unfixable issue, content creators are still better off.

1: re-establishing your audience does not have to take place 'elsewhere', your audience can re-find you in the same app they were already using.

2: political banning could not just take out 1 individual content creator, but whipe out an entire community of creators at/around the same time; whilst key loss/compromise IS an indivual phenomena (unless everyone uses the same corrupt app i gues 🫀).

3: both 1 and 2 allow for easier re-establishing using social networks. "Oh hey our buddy Bob uses a new npub, its this one, you can just conveniently click follow in the app you already using, how nice, dont forget to use promo-code...".

Ceterum censeo NIP-03 omnibus esse.

Never heard of that name before, are you prepping him for the crusade to retake Constantinopel?

Hi! How is the sentiment there down under? Very curious how things are going. Recently did a podcast about Nostr with an Aussie, and we will do another one in a while to reflect on how the new regulation is playing out.

Technically it would be 'MyStuff', given the location independence of NostrπŸ€”

Very cool. Pro tip, download a different app in a couple of days and see how that works loading your profile there. Many to pick from, the ability to just switch apps (i use like 3~4 in parallel on a daily basis) is part of that free digital life ;)

Amethyst renders entire threads, yakihonne will eventually.

I think everyone in this discussion is missing the actual point, which is that perhaps the most difficult part irt Nostr is that it is reinventing the wheel. The web already exists; most of what Nostr has to offer is basically the same thing you can find elsewhere that already had decades of developtment behind it.

So this chaotic mishmash of a "we" have to figure out this new paradigm (crypto-key-centric, relay based), which is something we are figuring out as we go;

And in that context stumble our way into competing with fully fleshed out incumbents (and this is not just a dev/UX thing, but the fact its some of the largest mega-ultra-turbo-mega corps this planet has currently, lol, so its build up infra on a 1000 different levels/axis/dimensions).

And looking at it that way, both of you are right: yes its an avant-garde frontier settler group of people with associated mindset that will have to bootstrap and carry this thing for the foreseeable future; and yes its a continuous failing in living up the the demands of "regular" users.

The a precarious situation, but i remain both hopefull and vigilant. I agree with you that i dislike the tone of the OP, its a bit of a LARP if you ask me...perhaps its (self)motivating speech some people need to talk some courage into themselves and others, even if it is at the cost of the normies; which frankly is not the end of the world, atleast at the current stage we are in.

At the end of the day the point of Nostr is freedom of association, which means that there is no real reason why the current userbase should constitute any hold-up for others to embrace the protocol. And i don't think it is, things just have not progressed enough for other types of groups to start doing their own thing.

On Tuesday 23rd of September we will host an open online session on HiveTalk to discuss Operation Kidstr, a Nostr-enabled safe and suitable internet for children. We will briefly explain the vision as outlined in the article below, and hopefully see all of you there to discuss it. Questions, ideas, critiques, or just interested? All are welcome to attend and hopefully participate.

Room will open at 18:30 UTC, short presentation will start at 19:00 UTC.

Link to the room will be provided shortly in advance of the meeting.

Well, we do just have text, but that other stuff still needs hosting so i get your point.

Two remarks:

1: there is no need for everything to be on a single relay. Sure there will be some bigger ones but the whole point of Nostr is that all this stuff is scattered, whilst users just being able to get the stuff they want from where it resides. I guess you have misconceptions on what the relay model behind Nostr actually is, not really your fault because its not clear to many, not even many devs, atleast not at the start.

2: relays are just webservers. The fact twitter can do it, is proof its technically possible to do. (I get it costs a lot of money etc.etc. but for that i refer back to point 1, my point here is that there is nothing special about relays)

Because you assume a single npub, but what if you have a bunker at the back that uses particular keypairs/nyms depending on the relay; then you might not want it to also go to your regular outbox, assuming it says something about your identity.

Then again, you could also reframe that as that nym having a different outbox, beign that particular relay

Currently, shakespeare just ignores the whole relay side of Nostr and has this afterthought retarded implementation. It just uses a handfull of popular big relays. Now here are just my assumptions:

It uses those relays in hopes it covers most stuff out there;

It forces you to select between them probably because doing anything else is too complicated. I.e. the point of the relay selection is only there as a 'well it should all be on this relay, but in the offchance it is not, you can try these others as well.

Its terrible. We can give it some slack because the whole vibecoding thing is novel, and getting the AI to create apps that handle various event kinds is innitially more important, but it is only ( the proverbial) half of the story.

Tried to find some nice source with some numbers, but ended up asking GPT-5 (i'd rather not but im past my bed time as it is). It confirmed the numbers i had in my head.

Generally, assuming the same amount of transistors and power consumption performing sha256 hashing (i.e. 'all else being equal').

If a CPU is the baseline, a gpu is about 100x better, an fpga 1000x and an asic somewhere between 100.000x to 1.000.000x.

Roughly, but you get the point.

So? Blame the skies, the world, blame God, you are demanding the impossible so who is responsible to fix it? It is not a "challenge", it is an unreasonable demand

The answer is simple. If you want ephemeral identities, you need to pay up, because money is the only thing that is meaningfull to the other party since you decided to rule out any other vector of judgement.

Or in other words: reputation is capital, and since you forgo that capital creation you have to come up with some other type of skin to put into the game.

Its obvious, why are people breaking their pretty heads over this; you can't have your cake and eat it as well πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Ps: PoW sucks

It wont be easy, but we will to teach the world the web always was subjective; you trust platforms to come up with a number, on what the platform beliefs to be real users.

People might be temped to think whatever pops up eventually in the Nostr context is some degraded thing from what we have in the legacy system, but it is probably actually an upgrade
