Democracy is a terrible way to make decisions. Thankfully, Bitcoin is anything but a democracy: 1) Its users, at least at this stage, are the opposite of the democratic "masses" in that they are naturally selected for intelligence and understanding of important economic concepts (and those selected individuals will become an elite in the future, and fully deserve that status); and 2) It is ruled by immutable code, and its consensus is derived, not from easily-manipulated and dull majorities, but from mathematically-provable truths.
"The Natural bedfellow of a fiat economy is a dictatorship. The natural bedfellow for Bitcoin is a democracy, a participatory democracy, because Bitcoin at its essence is a system of participatory grassroots democracy"
- Daniel Batton
