I saw most of an episode with a creepy guy who wore a jug of sand on his back and had nightmares about it

BEHEAD GNOSTICS

I have a hard time taking early Naruto seriously because it's straight up plagiarizing the 1999 Hunter x Hunter anime. Not just general concepts, but tons of visual motifs that only showed up together in that show.

Hunter x Hunter went dark in a very gritty way without taking it too far. When you look at Naruto as a derivative of that, it doesn't seem dark anymore, it just seems edgy.
