I think OP_RETURN is a distraction Ocean started it as a minor point, but quickly realised it gained traction and gave them more exposure and support to bring their more important objectives to light.

Also, the Core devs shot themselves in the foot by misunderstanding the nature of the discussion and were arguing purely based on merit which was never the intention.

Despite Oceans machiavellian strategy, I believe their long term intentions are good and I support their objective to remove PPS mining subsidies from the landscape in favour of Pay per Block which is actually how Bitcoin mining works.
