Yes, many bloody events, genocides, wars, and mechanisms of oppression throughout history were carried out by the state. However, I believe the root cause is not the existence of the state itself but the concentration of power in a single entity. Therefore, the absence of the state and allowing private property owners to freely shape society will not free people from state violence. On the contrary, my prediction is that a certain elite—the wealthy and the powerful—will continue to strengthen and maintain their dominance.
And thanks! I also enjoy exploring different perspectives on life.
I agree that there is not a lot of evidence for ancap philosophy working in practice. That is because nature fills a vacuum and so absence of state power will always be filled. There is endless evidence that all governments (left and right) eventually get captured by bad people and devolve to violence. Violence is the language of the state when under threat and when unopposed. It comes at least once a generation like clockwork. Maybe, just maybe Bitcoin can act to fill the void left by governments. Rules without rulers can only work if we can enforce those rules without empowering despots. Because of Bitcoin this may be the first time in human history ancapism can truly work. And why not try. We know the alternative leads to blood and tyranny.
I completely agree. I still remember the excitement and emotion I felt when I first researched Bitcoin. For me, it’s definitely a perfect alternative to our current problems, and I know we are still in Bitcoin’s early, archaic phase. In the future, it will continue to be much more useful and impactful.
