I will probably have to let them use the internet even as young kids, but I will be monitoring closely. If I find out they have defeated my parental controls after they hit puberty, and they aren’t exposing themselves or anything, I will mind my business. I’ll disable the parental controls at 16

Good plan. My wife and I stopped using parental controls on internet access when both our son and our daughter turned 15. I taught them both to drive (stick shift) when they were 14 ( in keeping with my respect for my own judgement versus that of the state ). They’re both on their own as adults now and doing great.

One of the key roles of a parent is to protect their children and the internet is like opening up a potential portal to hell right in your home.
