Fascinating isn’t it?
Definitely is, but it's not necessarily exclusive to nostr. I think those types just kind of come with fringe corners of the internet. Before nostr existed, I spent plenty of time in the fediverse and there are whole servers full of those types who probably desperately needed a hug and some therapy.
But that's why we have blocking / mute mechanisms.
People who want to be on alternative networks tend to be alternative. The fediverse split into two separate networks because the wokes couldn't get along with freezespeach. If nostr can't more people other than devs and bitcoin losers it will fade away like the rest. In my humble experienced opinion.
It is really weird how the fediverse is bifurcated like that. The server I ran for myself and like four other people was kind of shunted into the "freespeech" Side of the Fediverse, which, unfortunately, included pedophiles and actual Nazis. So it ended up being a game of whack-a-mole (ie moderation on my own server) because I didn't want to see that stuff, but at the same time I wasn't going to set hardcore speech policies for my server. But I was blocked by a huge Portion of the Fediverse for simply not having speech policies.
I think on my server the only thing it said was like, "just don't be a dick." And that wasn't enough for a large portion of the Fediverse.
There are literally only two word filters you need to filter out 90% of the reprobates on mastodon, and they also work really well in amethyst:
It splintered to an unusable mess of block lists. I ran multiple servers, pleroma, mastodon, miskey. It became anti pattern to the whole point of the fediverse. That pattern is so predictable. Maybe irc is still king/should still be king for a reason. Of course now you have trash like matrix and discord. Not to mention dare I say trash like nostr😋 the world still turns
