You’ll get a similar but very different answer depending on who you ask.
Simply speaking, #Bitcoin is the most sound/hard money that has ever existed.
Bitcoin is a digital currency that operates without the need for a central bank or government. It is a decentralized currency that is exchanged through a peer-to-peer network (or it can be bought/sold on exchanges). Transactions are verified by a globally distributed network of “nodes” (computers) through cryptography and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Anyone can audit the blockchain and/or code whenever they want to. Bitcoin exists independently of any government, state or financial institution. Bitcoin and its ledger are secured by proof-of-work (PoW) consensus, which is also the "mining" process that introduces new bitcoins into the system (93% of Bitcoin that will ever exist are already in circulation with the last Bitcoin being mined in the year 2140).
It’s not only a commodity, but a scarcity. It’s supply is capped at 21 million Bitcoin and that can never be altered or increased. As such, it’s truly an honest and immutable, globally distributed ledger that’s audited every 10 minutes.
It’s currently trading at roughly $30,000 USD per 1 Bitcoin, but you can purchase tiny subunits called “Satoshis” (like pennies for dollars) for mere pocket change, you don’t have to buy a whole coin to get it.
Here’s a short 6 minute video explaining it’s role as “digital gold” vs traditional gold:
