Google is an ad company. If they want to make more money, this is the first thing that comes to their mind. Apple is a product company, they have two ways to make more money and one of them may eat into the other. Yes, they're going to sell ads and information, but since this undercuts their marketing, they need to be more careful about it. There's more resistance. They can also pursue additional privacy improvements without fundamentally going against their revenue stream.

Sure, but your information is already sold. There is no "might be selling". This is already out of the door.

They are a smaller ad company than Google, but an ad company nevertheless.

Remember, Google pays Apple 36% of its entire search advertising revenue from Safari (which is a LOT). That is all PROFIT to Apple (because Google has all the costs).

Google is Apple's biggest and most profitable client. And they will do anything to keep that client.

If Apple was such a "product" company, it would have never taken Google's money. EVER.

And keep in mind that Apple ALSO takes a 30% cut of all Meta's massive ad revenue on Apple devices.

The amount is not public, but this is not a small amount.

True, that's important to keep in mind. I wish there were better options.

Use a custom ROM like GrapheneOS for starters.
