You forgot the part where you paid for the infrastructure

You mean my raspberry pi?

I mean, if you want to call that infrastructure, sure.

That California prepper guy is already paying seven dollars a month to get his stupid little blue check from Elon.

All it would take is shifting his energy and time to a protocol that doesn’t incentivize information theft.

But some people prefer $7/month for shackles rather than buying a $70 pi and an Ethernet cable.

All of the following count in the price:

- your internet connection

- your Pi which will most likely not be able to handle a large store

- the hours you spend trying to make it work, costing you probably hundreds of dollars per month at minimum wage, not including the required technical expertise

Dude; my pi works great. It takes more time to KYC for X verified.

The OP is paying $75 a month for a website… which can also be hosted by yourself for free!!

The benefits of actually doing it… priceless

You are spending several hours per month at least maintaining it leading to it costing more than what you would have paid some WP host

Unless you don’t value your time 😉

You also have not addressed the hardware and uplink cost

I am saying this as someone that hosts a lot of my own stuff.

i have tried doing it out of my own place but it's just not practical, and it only costs like $12/month to rent a VPS that can do the job

the stuff i run, though, i built it all haha, i'm running the vps mainly to showcase/test my stuff, also hosting my own images because it's super simple for me to take photos on my phone and then switch to my ssh file manager and drop the file straight in off the camera files and done

i can also host static assets too like the wasm/js version of my nostr relay chat client https://chat.realy.lol/

but yeah, if you are running ecom it's best to just rent a shop from a specialist shop ecom site hoster

it's not worth it trying to run it out of your house, this can be practical for things like personal/private nostr relays but when there's normie paying clients in the equation forget it, don't waste your time unless you plan to use your skills at a larger scale later

Fair; yes, it takes learning, which takes time

Worth every second.

Worth every sat.
