Diogenes PoW

what are you reading

True wisdom—strength of character and resilience—comes from building the soul, not just the body.

Diogenes was banished, or he fled, from Sinope over debasement of currency. He was the son of the mintmaster of Sinope, and there is some debate as to whether it was he, his father, or both who had debased the Sinopian currency.

What about deadlifts?

I agree with this. Labor is necessary to help us discover and achieve our true purpose and passion in life, at least it is for the majority of people.⚒️☀️🌬️🌹🍃✨💋🦁🫂❤️‍🔥

Disagree, if I understand his wording lol

“Stand a little out of my sun.” ~ Diogenes to the Alexander The Great☀️🌬️☁️🌤️✨💋🦁🫂❤️‍🔥

Sun Fact☀️: “The Great Conqueror ~ Alexander the Great came to visit Diogenes. Many statesmen and philosophers also joined in to visit Alexander with their congratulations, souvenirs, offerings.

When Alexander arrived, he found Diogenes lying in the sun.☀️

The monarch greeted him with awesome respect and asked if he wanted any special royal favor to be granted, “Yes,” said the eminent philosopher Diogenes to the Alexander, “Stand a little out of my sun.”☀️

So struck was Alexander by this reply that he moved out in silence. The emperor admired the sincere hauteur and opulence of the poor man who had nothing but disdain for him and his royal treasures. While walking down with his followers, who were laughing and joking about the philosopher’s reply, Alexander in a profound, proud tone answered to them…

“But truly, if I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes.”

Interesting 🌞

This quote will go over most people’s head including my own because it is entirely subjective. He is not opposed to labor in and of itself just “unfulfilling” labor which is different for everyone.❤️

Nice one Jack!

Jack, he lived in a jar.

🤣 … maybe it’s just a quote - not a value judgment on Diogenes’s beliefs

I just thought I’d color in some context for the readers 😉

Showing compassion to the body, a temple of the soul, is the highest Dharma. 🙏🤍

we are soul 99% of our existence. earth is only about the body. diogenes must have been an aquarius. to vault that meat sack around with you, you must willingly place it into the fray and be ever-present. to guard the body against all experience is to waste your time in it - it is like sitting on the curb for the whole day at disneyland because "rides are dangerous".

Yes always good to hear from the father of cynicism. A good bout of cynicism is healthy for the soul. My favorite of all of his quotes aptly describes one of the reasons for which I'm on Nostr.

"The most beautiful thing in the world is freedom of speech."-Diogenes

Goes hand in hand neatly quite often. 🫠

All labour has profit.
