brilliant of OpenAI to convince people to feed it all of their ideas, code, questions, answers, and now app data…all for free (with an option to pay them of course).

Wasn't openai a non-profit company? Is it legal to just change yourself like that?

Legal or not, it certainly says something about who Sam Altman is as a person.

Does it matter? They likely could not have moved as fast in the direction they wanted as a non-profit.

It doesn't feel right to just change like that and I find it hard to trust someone who does that for their own benefit.

As far as I know they reorganized and are not a non-profit anymore. They did that around the time Elon exited the company.
