brilliant of OpenAI to convince people to feed it all of their ideas, code, questions, answers, and now app data…all for free (with an option to pay them of course).

Hard reality of the times no doubt.

Great buisness model isnt it?

i don't see a problem with it as ai has no ambitions and the ppl behind it will fail longterm ... what will be left are the pyramids in the sand of time

Getting as fat as possible, as soon as possible 🐷

These platforms are going to make the privacy issues related to advertising and tracking cookies seem like a pedestrian concern in comparison.

In a lucky twist of fate, even though consumers can’t train them, they can run them locally.

Yes. The Stanford work is very important here, I think.

💯

What’s the worst that can happen 🦦

Wasn't openai a non-profit company? Is it legal to just change yourself like that?

Legal or not, it certainly says something about who Sam Altman is as a person.

Does it matter? They likely could not have moved as fast in the direction they wanted as a non-profit.

It doesn't feel right to just change like that and I find it hard to trust someone who does that for their own benefit.

As far as I know they reorganized and are not a non-profit anymore. They did that around the time Elon exited the company.

It is not open source anymore and Microsoft bought it.

💯

I smell a new bounty NPT?!

Wait til someone feeds it ao3

New technology, same old games.

The beauty of commoditizing farm animals,

Oops, I meant the human population.

Genius - And Microsoft have all of it.

What are the alternatives? Is it something that could be self hosted, or operated by a more trusted organization? I find the idea of giving up ChatGPT very difficult now.

I think they are going to have tons of competition, including open models. And hey, maybe they switch.

yes

They fine tunned Llama with some of the outputs of ChatGPT and packed into so you can self-host the model yourself. It is not as powerful, but it runs in your laptop and it's easy to install:

Thanks, I will check that out.

Maybe if it knows everything about us it will be nice to us…

Or dominate us into submission.

Either/or really 😂

exactly

I’m gonna go down there

It’s a good thing that I’ve only ever used it to do shit like “explain to my girlfriend that we can’t go out to eat the rest of the month because I accidentally bought 12kg of PLA filament - in the style of Eminem”

I mean, didn't all those apps that took a picture of you and converted it into the opposite sex, a child, an old person... essentially do the same? It's an old business model at this point.

Humans can’t monetize information forever.

It’s getting cheaper, easier to share, easier to duplicate, and now with AI, easier to search through and create.

If we till date didn’t fully understand our own magic to untap it. Will Ai be able to do that. In any case I’m going to live under a tree soon 🌳🧘🏻‍♀️

Never got a zap from #[1] 🫶🏼💜

Don't ask for it, earn it

I mean, didn't all those apps that took a picture of you and converted it into the opposite sex, a child, an old person... essentially do the same? It's an old business model at this point.

And to top it all, I'm 100% sure all that free AI training went to Putin or Xi, or to both.

i dont think that was brilliant.. it was a given if one has the smallest clue about how people behave and “think”..

Its undeniable the tool is useful though but yes its scary what kind of data this black box is gathering.

Whats the solution Jack? An open-source AI that can hopefully rival ChatGPT?

Nostr GPT where customers pay precisely for the data processing and output response. No subscription required

If it's free then you are the product

I mean centralizing web searches under one all popular private engine seemed to have worked fine and did not damage the « purity » (as in not corrupted) of the web. I do not see how sending all searches, ideas and codes to one popular centralized private AI would be a problem.

Forgot the sarcasm tag

Same scenario as Nostr relays. That’s why I think we should only pay relays for hosting our encrypted notes. Public notes are theirs to monetize.

There is no easier way to collect a heaping pile of shitty ideas/questions…

Hot take: less than 2% of users ask/prompt chat GPT effectively and provide the system with good data.

Imperative that someone releases an easy to use, open version, ASAP.

Not quite to the level but this one is open-source and you can run it in your laptop: https://github.com/cocktailpeanut/dalai

😥

MS. Go figure

It’s unbelievable how many people were gladly willing to spend all day training that thing for them

It solves user’s problems while making itself more powerful. Seems like a fair tradeoff in the short run. Long term, who knows but it cant be stopped either way.

What’s the deal with the hedge fund hit squad on Block?

Your post is generating a lot of discussion.

Brilliant of OpenAI? Or just stupidity from people who agree with these terms?

But still can’t blame OpenAI for taking their shot when they saw this opportunity.

People have long given away their ideas, data, privacy, and freedoms in the name of convenience and things being free.

People have given up their money in the same way. #Bitcoin gives it back to them.

#[0]

They’re outsourcing their RLHF process to 100s of millions of people.

😂

To me this creates a further incentive to publish open source codes and come up with hyper-collaborative rather than hyper-competitive ideas and business models

Best spend 1B from MS in decades

You mean like Google, Facebook, and Twitter???
