Home #Bitcoin mining is good for the Bitcoin network in several ways -

it decentralises the network far more. Rather than having 1000 ASIC's in one industrial unit wasting heat, have 1000 #ASIC's #heating 1000 homes.

It also stops the big miners centralising the network and getting all the Bitcoins.

It gives big miners with cheap power competition.

It spreads the currency too regular people.

Heat can be put to good use rather than wasted.

Really helpful and interesting read nostr:npub1l79hvcyl23f90ers7xqh7zjzmm7knj7fqf6he3lhnfyc3gfuz7lqlfsqkt 👍🏼🫂

nostr:npub1l79hvcyl23f90ers7xqh7zjzmm7knj7fqf6he3lhnfyc3gfuz7lqlfsqkt Your article really inspired me to up my mining into something a little more productive & helpful - with a few calculations some solar and battery configuration one should be able to donate a portion of existing renewables to mining / heating our homes - now we wait for the wall mounted hardwares to arrive or start to develop our own. I also like the floating zap me button on your site ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Thanks🙏

I did look into getting a #Nissan leaf #battery pack so I could run the mine 24hrs from low rate electricity.

I keep hinting to #Bitmain they could make some #home mining friendly stuff.

I’m now in the market for #S19XP or #S19j as my S17 blew up yesterday, they’re always reluctant to start after sitting idle a few months. Oh well, I’ve been toying with the idea upgrading anyway so it’s made the decision for me.

Cheers

I’m into the hole that is mining now 🤯 where to start ??!! Where I am living right now isn’t geared up for renewables so Im going to use something a little smaller to get me into it slowly. It’s quite a field.

Can you suggest any small start up rigs for a desktop setup ? So I can start to get my gear around it all ?

In the UK 🇬🇧 you can choose your electricity service provider. I’ve have #Octopus who only deal in #renewables. So no need to change anything at your house , just switch service providers.

Having an #EV really helps to get the cheap night rate, 7.5 - 9p/kWh

Bitmain S9 antminer are popular with beginners/ home heaters but even on low power / most efficient settings/ software (like #Braiins) , they have poor J/TH rating by modern standards. 80 - 98 J/TH. Off the shelf purpose designed bitcoin mine heaters are no better.

It’s good one to learn but really need to be <36J/TH to make enough coin to make a dent on electricity bill.

The new #Bitmain S21 is due for release on 22nd September, so I’m waiting to see if they release a range home miners (wishful thinking 😁), unlikely as they seem to be getting more industrial. Their new mines will be around 18J/TH and cost £9k . Not worth it for home mining, but maybe last years model S19XP with Braiins software I can drop the wattage down to 2000W with an improved efficiency of around 20J/TH

Thanks for the advice - the Birman s9 looks like a good place to start for me - be good to break even on cost but some more #Sats is the long game 🫂
