A loaf of bread with a stamped imprint found in Herculaneum and dated back to the first century AD, bears the name of its baker. Unearthed in 1930, this sourdough loaf was baked on the morning of August 24th, 79 AD. Turned to carbon and preserved by the oven it was baked in, the loaf endured the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, remaining intact through the ages.

That's some really STALE bread! Wow! They were so proud of their bread that they stamped the loaves... Quality!

Exactly ๐Ÿ’ฏ. and the reason for that is amazing too. Bread in ancient Rome was mostly baked in communal ovens. Loaves were stamped to indicate owner, customer or baker. This practice also helped to trace poorly made bread to its source.

That is so cool! Like one of those shared commercial kitchens that small batch bakers and hobbyists share today because they're so "experimental"...

It's like NOSTR in a way, everyone is accountable for what they post here. The freedom of speech and expression, but also the 'stamp' of the NPub to show that it's your post. ๐Ÿ’œ
