Truth. I was reminiscing with my kids back when the internet used to be simpler. I remember making and self-hosting a geocities page in 6th grade.

Even just the simple act of listening to music; buy CD or download ->listen and save digitally -> drag and drop to my 80gig iPod photo -> plug in headphones and go.

No accounts, no perpetual user-agreements, no clouds, no constant connectivity. I miss the simplicity.
