Yes, of course you’re right.
People in general are easily fooled because they process information in a shallow way and they’re not interested in expending energy on critically evaluating topics if their life’s not absolutely depending on them doing it. Then maybe! When the truth is not valued, so much will get destroyed before the reset kicks in and truth gets restored.
(And by the way, I see #bitcoin as a form of enforcer of truth)
#Bitcoin fixes a great number of things. But it doesn't fix them all. The biggest hurdle, imo is the people. They are too easily programmed for exactly the reasons you stated. Critical thought is difficult and most are unwilling.
Charlatans will always be there to exploit the systemic stupidity.
When you say, enforcer of truth, what does that mean to you?
That you cannot lie about how many bitcoin there is or will be. As money is some kind of base layer of civilisation, a fundamental communication layer between people that know and don’t know each other, dealing with goods and services, it is of great importance that you cannot distort the communications layer by injecting more of the money into the system in a devious way….in other words that you’re not permitted to lie to give yourself unwarranted benefits.
The proof of work is the mechanism by which bitcoin enforces this truth. I think this is the answer to your question.
Then yes, I agree wholeheartedly.
