I have challenged statements by people at the top of famousness on both sides of the op_return debate here on nostr.

I get that I'm a nobody, but it tells me something that Lopp answered my challenges repeatedly even after I called him a shitcoiner point blank but mechanic hasn't responded to any of my rebuttals to his posts.

Lopp has also kindly responded to me as well, but to be fair I haven’t had any interactions with Mechanic nor really attempted to start any

I didn't expect a response. Just went into threads by both of them and said "I think you are wrong about X and here is why"

It’s an important data point to see who is willing to engage here and who is not

I've seen a lot of name calling coming from one side and not the other. That's not necessarily an indicator of who is right or wrong, but it has made productive discourse more difficult. The dynamics of this debate are quite interesting. If you're opposed this is an existential threat and you have every right to be angry. If you're in favor or neutral it's not really a cause for extreme emotions.

I'm looking forward to listening to the WBD episode with mechanic later today. The opposition has gotten a lot less airtime on podcasts I've noticed.

Both sides love a good ad hominem attack from where I sit. I may see that more clearly than most since I changed sides after learning more where most people have only dug their heels in worse on whatever side they started on.

Ah maybe I'm trippin, but I haven't seen it. I switched sides too pretty early on.

Sjors and I chatted a bit about it in last week's Optech Recap about it, of someone wants to listen to other sources.

I might listen to that one again just because I'm not sure I retained much on the first listen lol. Most of the podcasters I listen to seem to be in favor though, Odell and Marty for sure. I've heard Shinobi on WBD. Preston hasn't covered it yet and most of the macro people like Lyn seem to be sitting this one out.

I’ve never found Lopp to be irrational. If he has an opinion on a matter, he’s earned my time to reflect on it.

I’m still not 100% sure I agree with his thoughts. Once you let go of a standard, it’s hard to put the genie back in the bottle. I’m a big believer in fees ultimately ruling the day - but I’m not sure we’re mature enough yet to solely rely on that. Even satoshi recognized the need to protect the network while it’s growing.
